St Mary’s wishes to appoint an independent safeguarding advisor to support the charity’s approach to safeguarding vulnerable adults. The role is likely to be suitable for candidates with recent experience of safeguarding work with vulnerable adults.
St Mary’s is a long-established Christian charity which has offered accommodation and support to people in need since the thirteenth century. We own 39 one-bedroom almshouses which, in the main, are let to low-income adults aged 70+ and a further 38 homes which are let at market rents and managed on our behalf by a commercial lettings agency.
We employ an experienced Scheme Manager who is responsible for operational management of the almshouses and implementation of the Safeguarding Policy. Trustees review action on Safeguarding through a sub-committee which normally meets twice yearly and reports to the Charity’s main board.
The purpose of appointing an independent advisor is to:
- Exercise oversight of the Charity’s approach to Safeguarding
- Act as a ‘critical friend’ when reviewing policy and procedures
- Provide occasional support and advice to staff or trustees on an exceptional basis, when required.
It is envisaged that the role is likely to involve an average of 10 hours work p.a which is likely to consist of:
- Attending 2 meetings per year
- At least one site visit
- Additional time reviewing documentation remotely.
The role will attract remuneration as follows:
- A retainer of £750 p.a.
- An hourly rate payment of £50 for additional hours worked over above the ten hours specified above.
For an informal discussion or to express interest please contact the Clerk to the Trustees.
Your expression of interest should be limited to one side of A4 and be accompanied by recent CV detailing experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults as well as the details of two professional referees.
We aim to fill this role by 1st September but may appoint prior to then if a suitable candidate becomes available.
